Welcome to the Shipleys of Maryland website. We are an organization of the descendents of Adam Shipley, an Englishman who came to Maryland in 1668 and settled in Ann Arundel county. Our organization was founded on October 4, 1925. Membership is open to all descendents of Adam Shipley, as well as their spouses. We publish a newsletter twice a year, hold a family picnic each June, and hold an annual luncheon every October. We published an extensive 3 volume, 2400 page geneology book in 2002, and are planning to publish a supplement early in 2011. Memberships are available on either an annual or lifetime basis. Membership entitles you to receive our biannual newsletter, our membership directory, information about activities of the Shipley organization, as well as an opportunity to network with other family members. An annual membership is $10 for an individual and $15 for a family. Life memberships are $100. You do not have to reside in Maryland to be a member- in fact, about half of our members live outside of Maryland. Use the on-line form at the bottom of this page to request a membership application.
Our newsletter provides a convenient way to keep abreast of Shipley news and activities. Published twice a year, it consists of 15-20 pages that provide organizational news (committee reports, director reports), family news (letters, memorials, births, milestones), recipes, and several feature articles of historical or genealogical interest for Shipleys.
We are extremely proud of our latest genealogical publication: "The Shipleys of Maryland, 2002." This 3 volume set consists of over 2,400 pages which both update and expand on the information provided in our 1968 and 1938 editions. We released the book amid much fanfare at our October 2002 annual meeting. The book set costs $150 (plus shipping and MD tax, if applicable), and is available to anyone who is interested. You do not have to be a member to order the book. Please use the request form below to obtain an order form.
We are preparing a genealogical supplement that we plan to publish early in 2011. The supplement will cover the period from 1998 (when the 2002 book inputs closed) to 2008. The supplement will cost $10, plus shipping and tax (MD residents). For those of you who do not own the 2002 book, we are offering the Supplement and the 2002 book for a total price of $135, plus shipping and tax.
